Oodnadatta Hosts Town Vs The Stations Football Match
The Oodnadatta Progress Association held the inaugural football match on Saturday, 20 October 2018 with the local community team taking on the pastoralists at the Oodnadatta School Oval.
The day started with a junior coaching clinic which was attended by at least 20 youth from Oodnadatta and Coober Pedy. Great support was provided by the 2018 SANFL League and Reserves Premiers - North Adelaide Football Club who donated football boots and other equipment for both kids and players. Club members also signed a premiership guernsey that will be framed and displayed at the local hotel to commemorate the game.
It was great to see the community come together with the game played in good spirits. The score was 7.10 to 6.4 with the Pastoralists coming out on top.
OCA StarClub Officer Mark Shirley, together with local health nurse and Oodnadatta Progress Association member Jessica Robinson, assisted with the organisation. The OCA is proud to have supported the event with sponsorship towards the cost of new guernseys. Additional support from pastoral stations and business from the region is also recognised and appreciated.
The day was a great success for the community with credit going to the Oodnadatta Progress Association, and especially Jessica Robinson, for organising a fantastic community event. Plans for future games are ongoing with the possibility of including Coober Pedy and Marla.
