![]() | Presiding Member, William (Bill) McIntosh AM Mr William McIntosh was appointed as Presiding Member on 1 July 2019. Bill McIntosh AM, grew up in the Flinders Ranges where after matriculating at Scotch College, has managed the family pastoral lease, Gum Creek Station, near Blinman. Bill has maintained a wide range of education and personal development initiatives. Training in governance practice, strategic planning, risk management, environmental management systems as well as CFS and SA Ambulance accreditations to name a few. Bill has studied at the post-graduate Rangeland Certificate level and became a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors in November 2013. Bill, together with wife Jane, are now the lessees of Gum Creek Station. Traditionally a sheep grazing property, Gum Creek Station has now diversified into accommodation and ecotourism experiences as its main enterprise. Bill’s experiences in Outback SA has exposed him to issues of seasonal variability, sustainability, diversification and the consideration of opportunities for economic development. As a result Bill has a strong interest in the principle of achieving a sustainable balance between conservation, production and protection, in the landscape. Bill’s involvement in committees has been at state, regional and local levels. He was awarded an Australia Day Citizen Award in 1989, a Centenary Medal in 2003 and membership of the Landcare Hero Honour Roll in 2015. In June 2007 he was appointed as a member in the General Division of the Order of Australia in the Queen’s Birthday Honour list for service to conservation and environment, particularly through the advancement of natural resource management practices and conservation initiatives, and to remote area communities in South Australia. |
![]() | Member, Frances Frahn Mrs Frances Frahn was appointed to the Outback Communities Authority as of 1 July 2019. Frances' long association with Outback SA has given her extensive experience in remote areas childcare, cooking and the wool industry, notably she is a qualified wool classer and a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. She also has a keenly developed skill set required for volunteer roles with young farmer boards and committees. Frances was appointed an inaugural member of the National Council of Young Farmers in 2005. Eager to expand her life experiences, Frances spent time working internationally before returning to Outback SA, where she has been involved in youth development and project management on mining exploration camps. Frances now resides at her childhood home, Holowiliena Station in the Flinders Ranges with husband, Luke and young family. Together, they have embarked on significant historical restoration works, which have evolved into a small tourism business they run in conjunction with the pastoral business. This allows Frances to pursue her love of local and station history while sharing the Flinders Ranges with guests. |
![]() | Member, Lee Warmington Mr Lee Warmington was appointed to the Outback Communities Authority as of 1 July 2019. Lee has lived in the Far West Coast for over 60 years, the last 50 in the small community of Penong. He has been closely involved in the mining industry for over 40 years and now manages a gypsum mine just out of Penong. His work in the mining sector has afforded Lee a strong finance and strategic skill set for living and working in remote locations. Lee has a wealth of experience in, and a great passion for, community support. Lee has held an executive position with the Penong and Districts Progress Association for over 30 years. He is also heavily involved in the running of the Western United Tigers Football Club. Lee’s other passion include the local race, swimming and tennis clubs. Lee is also a member of the Penong CFS. Lee has a sound understanding of life in Outback SA and understands acutely, the needs of Outback people. |
![]() | Member, Jo Fort Jo Fort has had 30 years of experience in remote area health and hospitality/tourism industries. Originally a Remote Area Nurse in Birdsville, Jo’s duties extended to include General Nursing, Midwifery and Neonatal care. ![]() | Member, Sam Johnson OAM Sam Johnson is currently the Chief Executive Officer of the District Council of Mount Remarkable. Sam has also previously held senior roles in local government (as Mayor of a regional Council) and in the banking sector. Sam brings extensive experience and knowledge in the fields of leadership, management, governance and financial acumen. His experience is underpinned by formal qualifications of a Bachelor of Public Administration (Management & Public Policy) (current study); Diploma of Local Government (Elected Member), Diploma of Local Government (Management), Advanced Diploma Leadership & Management, Diploma of Property, Cert IV Real Estate and Cert IV Financial Services. With both professional experience as that as an elected member, Sam has developed an excellent set of skills in communications, stakeholder management, research, analysis and public policy giving him the ability to interpret information and to apply sound judgement in all settings. Sam was awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia in June 2021 recognising his contribution to the community and local government. |
![]() | Member, Tony Vaughan ASM Tony has worked for the Royal Flying Doctor Service since 2014 and is currently the Chief Executive of the Royal Flying Doctor Service Central Operations. Tony has extensive leadership experience within the Public and Private Health sectors and emergency services sector and is passionate about driving strategies that provide quality health services and influencing policy, strategic planning and program development. In recognition of his contribution to the community, health and emergency services (SAAS) sector Tony was awarded the Ambulance Services Medal (ASM) by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth on Australia Day in 2010. |
![]() | Member, Trevor Wright Trevor Wright is well known in Outback SA and has lived in William Creek, located in the upper far north of South Australia, for over 20 years. Trevor is the owner of Wrightsair and publican of the William Creek Hotel. Trevor has a passion for the Outback and his skills and experience in the tourism industry in William Creek gives him a unique understanding and perspective of life in Outback SA. |
